Occupying a former flour mill, Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles presents art exhibitions, events and learning activities which connect with the local community in a vibrant architectural space.
‘Firelei Báez. The fact that it amazes me does not mean I relinquish it’ and ‘Jason Rhoades. DRIVE: The Garage’ are on view through 5 January 2025.
‘Gustav Metzger. And Then Came the Environment,’ presented in conjunction with the Getty Museum’s citywide PST ART initiative, ‘Art & Science Collide,’ is on view through 12 January 2025.

Situated at the center of Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles, Manuela unites chef, farmer and artist to create an authentic and original dining experience. Under the direction of Executive Chef Kris Tominaga, the menu celebrates seasonal ingredients sourced from the best farms and producers in Southern California.
Named for Manuela Wirth, the restaurant is illuminated and animated by specially commissioned works from artists Paul McCarthy, Mark Bradford and Raymond Pettibon.
The restaurant is available for private hire, as is the Private Dining Room, an intimate space that hosts up to 12 guests.

The garden, a certified Wildlife Habitat as recognized by the National Wildlife Federation, is an oasis within the burgeoning Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. Featuring a chicken coop and beds of herbs and vegetables, which support the onsite restaurant, Manuela – this space aims to integrate community with urban food production and sustainability. The serene and contemplative environment is surrounded by an abundance of street art murals, which have been kept in their original locations, creating a juxtaposition of the site’s local history with its new life. The open-air courtyard and garden won the 2019 Landscape Architecture category of the 49th Los Angeles Architectural Awards.
ARTBOOK @ Hauser & Wirth Bookstore is a contemporary art and culture bookstore which highlights topical issues throughout the year by presenting a rotating thematic inventory of titles. ARTBOOK carries an extensive selection of magazines in a wide variety of subjects, as well as a large selection of children’s books, critical texts and performance titles. The bookstore also features a comprehensive collection of Hauser & Wirth artists’ titles and exhibition catalogues.

At Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles, learning and community engagement are centered around three pillars: community, academic, and career access. The community projects involve local groups, aiming at harder-to reach- demographics. The academic centers around schools and students, while career access bring young people into the gallery’s orbit so they can garner experiences for a job in the arts.
Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles Learning programs aim to instigate a dialogue between the works on view and our diverse audiences – artists, downtown residents, community partners, students, and faculty of Southern California schools and academic institutions.
As a pioneering, multipurpose art center, Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles emphasizes a wide range of activities, including walkthroughs, workshops, screenings, performances, and special events, with an emphasis on sharing the resources of the gallery space for a broad range of family, youth and adult programs.
Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles supports, collaborates and works in partnership with many local and international cultural organizations, museums, nonprofits, and universities: Artbook, Art + Practice, The Broad, California Institute of the Arts, California State University, Los Angeles, Downtown Women’s Center, Garden School Foundation, Hammer Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles Public Library, Los Angeles Review of Books, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Piece by Piece, Nest Global, Ramón C. For the Spring 2024 semester of Community Impact Media, a shared project between the gallery and Cal State LA, student filmmakers drew inspiration from the exhibition RETROaction (part two). Their films illuminate the stories of nonprofits committed to the socioeconomic transformation in South LA communities and organizations advocating for those impacted by the juvenile justice system.
On the occasion of late American artist Winfred Rembert’s exhibition ‘Hard Times’ on view in Downtown Los Angeles, ‘Being Unique is a Gift,’ is a new learning inititative in collaboration with the Arts for Healing and Justice Network (AHJN), an organization that provides arts programming to youth impacted by the juvenile justice system.
Hauser & Wirth opened its Los Angeles location in March 2016 in the heart of the burgeoning Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. Occupying a former flour mill, Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles is a vibrant communal space that links art and architecture with a dynamic events program. In addition to supporting and collaborating with many local and international cultural organizations, nonprofits, and universities, the Los Angeles gallery fosters public dialogue with the arts through a range of activities that engage the city’s diverse population.
Located at 901 East 3rd Street, the gallery is situated in the former Globe Mills complex, a collection of historic buildings dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The site was restored by Los Angeles real estate company Creative Space LA in consultation with Annabelle Selldorf, Principal of Selldorf Architects. In 2018, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles was awarded the Chair’s Award, Los Angeles Conservancy’s highest honor recognizing the importance of preserving historic landmarks that make the city unique, and in 2021, Time Out L.A. named the gallery ‘Best Gallery in Los Angeles.’
